Africans in Guangzhou are on edge, after many are left homeless amid rising xenophobia as China fights a second wave of coronavirus
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/10/china/africans-guangzhou-china-coronavirus-hnk-intl/index.html
Citation: | Hong Kong (CNN)The African community in Guangzhou is on edge after widespread accounts were shared on social media of people being left homeless this week, as China's warnings against imported coronavirus cases stoke anti-foreigner sentiment.
In the southern Chinese city, Africans have been evicted from their homes by landlords and turned away from hotels, despite many claiming to have no recent travel history or known contact with Covid-19 patients.
CNN interviewed more than two dozen Africans living in Guangzhou many of whom told of the same experiences: being left without a home, being subject to random testing for Covid-19, and being quarantined for 14 days in their homes, despite having no symptoms or contact with known patients.
Health authorities in Guangdong province and the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau did not respond to CNN's request for comment. |

Africans in Guangdong and Fujian Province mostly affected are lamenting the move by the Chinese, fearing that they could be exposed to the v!rus.
Africans in China, who confirmed the ejection to our correspondent, said the government was employing force to eject foreigners from their homes.
They said, “There are claims that blacks are the ones now importing covd into China.
“Foreigners and particularly black people are currently not allowed to access public places including malls, restaurants and hospitals.
“They have landlords to evict them, they chase them out of hotels and make them go through all sorts because of covid.â€
To quell the ejections, a meeting was held between the African community leaders in Guangzhou and the government |

Emergency Situation For Black Residents in Guangzhou China
https://youtu.be/3MhQJyRSt9g
Citation: | In today's update I speak about a growing and troubling situation in Guangzhou for foreigners, particularly for those of African decent.
Apparently the catalyst for this is coming from an illogical conclusion that the black community has been bringing covid-19 back into China & an incident where a black resident had assaulted a local nurse. None of these excuse targeting an entire population.
From what I understand a lot of international media will be reporting on this story soon and I don't believe they will do so in a fair/balanced/contemplative manner, so it's important that we first get a more constructive conversation started first. The video I shared isn't an isolated incident and there are many more, I suspect many of them will be shared across multiple media outlets with a far less fair commentary.
There are still a lot of unknowns here and I expect we will learn more soon.
In any event I hope we see some positive action in Guangzhou to help resolve this issue. |
