Minister Laurent Esso last Friday received in audience the Brazilian Ambassador to Cameroon, Roberto Pessoa Dacosta.

The Minister of External Relations, Laurent Esso and the Ambassador of Brazil to Cameroon, Roberto Pessoa Dacosta on Friday, September 9 discussed ways of strengthening the excellent bilateral relations between Brazil and Cameroon. This was during a 30-minute audience Minister Laurent Esso granted the Brazilian diplomat.

Ambassador Roberto Pessoa Dacosta’s talks with Minister Laurent Esso came a month after the second Cameroon-Brazil Mixed Commission took place at Brasilia, Brazil last August 4 and 5. The Cameroonian delegation to the mixed commission was led by Minister Laurent Esso. Friday’s audience was therefore a forum to chart new ways of furthering the cooperation ties in respect of the engagement taken. Discussions focused on the health and educational sectors. Brazil is said to have recorded giant strides in combating the HIV/AIDS pandemic. It was disclosed that there exists a project aimed at enabling Cameroon share and benefit from the rich experiences of Brazil in curbing the spread and treating the pandemic. The two officials also discussed ways of furthering cooperation in the educational domain. It was revealed that some Brazilians want to retrace their roots which is Africa. For this to be concretely achieved Brazilian authorities thought it wise to have African history taught in their universities. As such, an accord is said to have been reached with the University of Yaounde I and two professors from the said university will offer courses in the Brazilian Universities of Brasilia and San Paolo.

On Thursday, September 8, Minister Laurent Esso, also received in audience the new Ambassador designate of Egypt to Cameroon, Mohamed Saad Akl. He came to present the advanced copies of his letters of credence to the Minister of External Relations. In the ensuing discussions, during the occasion, the Egyptian diplomat was particularly interested in bilateral cooperation in the domain of sports, especially football wherein Cameroon has proved its worth. He described the relations between Cameroon and Egypt since 1960 as excellent and multilateral.

Ambassador Mohamed Saad began his first official mission same day, as he traveled to Douala after submitting advanced copies of his accreditation letters. He was expected to receive an important delegation of Egyptians at the Douala International Airport.

Born in 1950, Mohamed Saad is a jurist and graduate of the Egyptian Police Academy. Before his appointment to Cameroon, he had served in Luanda, Washington and Rio de Janero. Until his recent appointment, Ambassador Mohamed Saad was Deputy Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Protocol Department.
